Royal Academy Of Dance
Royal Academy of Dance collection - covering over 70 years of ballet and dance by GBL Wilson In October 2007 we announced that, courtesy of the Royal Academy of Dance, for the first time in 50 years we were able to start highlighting the rich photographic ballet archive of GBL Wilson. Several hundred boxes later later we have scanned, captioned and uploaded over 8000 images. From the golden era of the 1940s and 50s up to his death in 1984, GBL Wilson recorded a comprehensive overview of the history of English ballet. The archive covers 100s of rehearsals and productions at Sadler’s Wells, the Royal Opera House and the Royal Festival Hall; intimate behind-the-scenes parties featuring famous names including Beryl Grey, Margot Fonteyn, Rudolph Nureyev; informal portraits of choreographers at work such as Roland Petit, Ninette de Valois, Leonide Massine, Marie Rambert, George Balanchine, Frederic Ashton and Kenneth Macmillan.
